The Drawmer SP2120 Speaker Protector offers both strict level control and complete peace of mind to contractors, installers and venue operators. As its name suggests, the 1U two-channel processor eliminates the possibility of unauthorised excessive sound pressure levels on speaker systems — whether caused by spikes and pops in the signal chain or by over-enthusiastic DJs or engineers — helping to prevent damage to both drivers and amplifier electronics.
By giving access only to key-holders, such as the maintenance engineer and venue manager, the SP2120 ensures that maximum levels cannot be altered once installed. It provides an effective, tamper-proof way for clubs, theatres, pubs, schools and universities to comply with local legislation and Noise at Work regulations.
An integral front-panel security lock ensures that only authorised key-holders can make adjustments. When unlocked, two installer presets are available: the first calibrates the 16-segment left/right bargraphs to the incoming audio and sets the threshold where protection begins; the second defines the maximum volume level the system can reach.
If incoming levels exceed this limit, the SP2120's transparent protection circuitry maintains the set volume without degrading sound quality. Its signal path uses multiple time-constant circuitry and automatic gain control (AGC) to handle transients intelligently, allowing brief overloads to sound louder without actually increasing SPL.
Developed in response to installers dissatisfied with crude, switch-type protection systems - which simply cut power or disconnect speakers - the SP2120 provides a far more elegant and non-disruptive solution. Built on over 25 years of Drawmer's experience in dynamic processing, it delivers rock-solid performance, reliability and sound quality that meet the demands of today's venues and noise control regulations.
As an optional extra a Tamper-proof Bracket can be fitted to the rear of the unit - trapping the XLR’s in place and making it extremely difficult to disconnect them without removing the bracket. This bracket could be specified in order to conform to Local Authority noise abatement regulations.
